How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Mega Gas empowers underrepresented groups in the climate movement by intentionally centering women, youth, and climate-vulnerable communities in both service delivery and decision-making. Our typical end user is an 18–40-year-old woman—often a stay-at-home mother with a high-school education—living in a two-roomed house in a low-income area, supporting a household of about five people while earning USD 2–3 per day through informal work such as small grocery kiosks. These women are disproportionately exposed to indoor air pollution and energy price shocks, yet are often excluded from clean energy transitions. Our community kitchens are located in informal settlements and designed as shared community assets that remove upfront costs and enable dignified access to clean cooking. Over 70% of our users are women, many of whom increasingly use the kitchens not only for household needs but also for commercial cooking—preparing meals for sale and growing micro-businesses. Women also lead our waste supply chains through women-led community-based organizations and manage kitchen operations and savings groups enabled by our PAYGO system. Youth are engaged as operators, technicians, riders, data agents, and mobilizers, gaining skills and pathways into green jobs.
