This initiative establishes a solar-powered, automated inland aquaculture demonstration and training center in Malawi. It provides hands-on training for smallholder fish farmers, students, and extension officers, integrating renewable energy, IoT-based water quality monitoring, and climate-resilient pond design to improve fish productivity and promote sustainable, low-carbon aquaculture practices.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

Our project targets smallholder fish farmers in rural Malawi, many of whom are women, youth, and members of underserved communities who traditionally have limited access to capital, technology, and training. By providing hands-on training in climate-smart, automated aquaculture, the project empowers participants with practical skills in renewable energy integration, pond management, and IoT-based water monitoring. Women and youth are specifically encouraged to participate through targeted outreach and subsidized training opportunities. The project also offers mentorship, access to demonstration ponds, and guidance on replicating the model in their communities, creating pathways for entrepreneurship and income generation. Within WESCS GreenDrive Ltd, women and youth are included in technical and management roles, ensuring diverse perspectives in project implementation. By prioritizing underrepresented groups in both operational and beneficiary roles, the initiative strengthens equitable participation in climate solutions while building local capacity and fostering inclusive economic growth.
