Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

The Biogas Micro Distribution Power Plant is a youth-led initiative, founded by Nwokoma Chinonye and Justice Nwezi, designed to empower communities often underrepresented in climate solutions. By focusing on urban neighborhoods in Port Harcourt, the project directly engages youth, women, and small business owners, providing opportunities to participate in sustainable energy practices and waste management programs.
We plan to prioritize hiring local youth and women for operational roles such as waste collection, digester maintenance, and community outreach, creating meaningful employment while building climate awareness. Community workshops and engagement campaigns will include educational programs tailored to these groups, ensuring they have access to knowledge, skills, and leadership opportunities in renewable energy.
Within our organization, decision-making is collaborative, with both founders representing youth leadership and guiding inclusive project planning. As the project scales, we aim to maintain this diversity by expanding leadership and operational teams to include a wider representation of women, youth, and other climate-vulnerable community members.
By combining employment, education, and leadership opportunities, the project not only reduces GHG emissions but also strengthens the participation and empowerment of underrepresented groups in climate action, ensuring social equity alongside environmental impact.
