Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
AlongRoute empowers underrepresented groups in two ways: through who builds the solution and through who benefits from it. Internally, we are a women-led deep-tech team in a male-dominated maritime sector, with women holding senior leadership and core technical positions, ensuring diverse perspectives shape both scientific rigor and product decisions. We also translate inclusion into measurable operational value: beyond “neutral” marine weather forecasts, AlongRoute provides exposure and wellbeing-oriented indicators (e.g., expected hours above heavy-sea thresholds, fatigue/comfort flags) so routing decisions can explicitly account for working conditions at sea; an important barrier for retention and wellbeing, particularly for women seafarers and other underrepresented crew in maritime roles. We actively support youth by hiring early-career talent into meaningful technical positions: two core team members (Pavlos and Ageliki) are under 30, and we plan to continue scaling through junior hires, internships, and mentorship pathways that build real capability in ocean and climate technology. Finally, our CEO is openly LGBTQ+, reinforcing our commitment to an inclusive culture, psychological safety, and equal opportunity as we grow.
