Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

Open Forest Protocol is built for people who are usually last in line for climate finance: smallholder farmers, Indigenous and local communities, and project developers in the Global South who rarely have the budget or connections to access traditional carbon markets.

By making monitoring and verification low-cost and digital, and by publishing clear methodologies and open data flows, we help these groups own their project data and unlock a new income stream from the forests they restore and protect. Our tools are designed so that local teams, often including women and youth field agents, can collect and submit data themselves rather than outsourcing everything to foreign consultants.

Inside OFP, we’re a remote, globally distributed team with members from Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, and we have women in key leadership roles (including our Chief Climate Officer). As we grow, we prioritize hiring from regions where our projects operate and partnering with community-based organizations, so that the people most affected by climate change are directly shaping and benefiting from the system we’re building.
