Name of Project:
Year Project Originated:
Project Summary / Description:
We develop sustainable cow feed using grass, seaweed, and microbiome science to reduce methane emissions, improve animal health, and increase productivity. It supports smallholder farmers in Africa by boosting income, strengthening food security, and promoting climate-smart livestock farming.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
SAB Biomanufactures empowers smallholder farmers who are often underrepresented in the climate movement, especially women, youth, and climate-vulnerable rural communities. Many of the farmers we work with rely on livestock for their main income and are highly affected by climate change. By providing affordable, locally developed feed, the project helps them increase productivity, earn more income, and adopt climate-smart practices. Women play an important role in livestock farming and decision-making at the household level, and the project actively engages women farmers in testing, training, and feedback. Youth are involved through research, data collection, and field activities, building skills in climate-smart agriculture and innovation. The organization itself is led by a young African woman founder and includes team members with backgrounds in environmental science, agriculture, and technology.
