Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our project empowers underrepresented and climate-vulnerable communities by delivering resilient cooling and localized energy access in regions most exposed to extreme heat, where grid reliability is limited and heat-related health risks are highest. By converting waste or solar heat into electricity and cooling, the solution supports community shelters, clinics, schools, and small enterprises that serve women, children, elderly populations, and low-income households, improving safety, productivity, and well-being during heatwaves. The project also emphasizes inclusive participation through local deployment, installation, and maintenance models that create skilled technical roles and training opportunities for youth and first-generation engineers in underserved regions. Within the organization, diversity is embedded through a multidisciplinary team structure that includes early-career professionals, researchers, and technicians from varied socio-economic backgrounds. Partnerships with academic institutions, startups, and public agencies further expand access for underrepresented groups to engage in clean-energy innovation, ensuring the benefits of climate solutions are shared equitably while building local capacity and long-term climate resilience.
