Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our project is designed around climate-vulnerable rural rice-growing communities in Eastern India where residue burning is common and underemployment is high. We create paid local roles across the value chain, including kiln operators, field assistants, and digitally literate youth serving as digital monitoring, reporting, and verification specialists who oversee multiple kilns, upload evidence, and mediate grievances. Women are intentionally included in field roles, and our scale plan includes a 10 percent women’s wage incentive that deposits a supplemental payment into a wife’s bank account to strengthen women’s financial inclusion and household control of income. We also pair this with a shift to digital wage payments and practical financial literacy support for low-literacy users. Representation in our organization reflects the communities we serve. Field teams are recruited locally, community partners such as local NGOs and self-help groups co-own revenue agreements and manage payroll, and our revenue-sharing policy returns at least 70 percent of carbon credit income to communities through direct payments, wages, and co-benefit investments.

Mission Statement:
Nirvana Carbon Solutions builds a scalable biochar program that trains smallholder farmers to replace stubble burning, which drives harmful air pollution and avoidable greenhouse gas emissions, with conversion of crop residues into soil-applied biochar that stores long-lived carbon and strengthens livelihoods through paid local roles and transparent carbon accounting.
