Project Summary / Description:
Clima Sur is a youth-led climate governance initiative that strengthens the capacity of young leaders to design, advance, and implement environmental public policy at the subnational level. Operating as a political innovation lab, the initiative combines applied training in legislative design, political analysis, and strategic advocacy with direct collaboration between participants and decision-makers.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Clima Sur is explicitly designed to empower groups that are structurally underrepresented in climate decision-making, particularly youth, women, and young people from climate-vulnerable and politically marginalized territories. First, the project targets young people aged 18–30 who are largely excluded from formal policymaking spaces despite being among the most affected by climate impacts. Through intensive training in environmental law, legislative design, and advocacy, Clima Sur transfers concrete political power: participants do not only learn about climate issues, they co-create and advance real public policies alongside legislators. Second, the program applies an intersectional and territorial approach. Active outreach strategies prioritize women, LGBTQ+ youth, and participants from public universities and grassroots movements, helping overcome socioeconomic and geographic barriers to participation. As a result, women and young people from diverse social backgrounds are strongly represented among participants and facilitators. This commitment is reflected internally. Jóvenes por el Clima Argentina is a youth-led organization, with decision-making authority held by people under 30. Women occupy key leadership roles across coordination, program design, and political strategy. Many team members come from regions highly exposed to climate impacts, ensuring lived experience informs policy priorities.
