Project Summary / Description:

This project focuses on ecological restoration with the following activities:

1.	Reforestation of 20 hectares of degraded landscape on the Kolue peninsular, by empowering under privileged students to supply and plant 22,500 native wide-leaf, edible and climate-resilient breadfruit trees.

2.	REDD sequestration research, including data collection and processing, validation, quantification and sharing to ensure ecosystem healthiness and stability for carbon financing mechani.

3.	Training and deployment of 6 gender-sensitive eco-guards to monitor the ecosystem of Cestos-Senkwen from ilicit logging, poaching shifting cultivation and habitat encroach.

4.	Expansion of the existing 4-plot aquaculture to one hectare (25 plots), as sustainable food and innovative financing mechanism, with catfish fingerlings supply by the existing 4-plot fishpond as local contribution, which has the potential to generate $144,000.00 after every 8 mon.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

This eco-friendly food security innovation is expected to impact 15 communities, with an estimated population of 10,000 inhabitants, to conserve their natural resources, in compliance with “Article 29” of the “United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP)” in Cestos-Senkwen, as follow:

1.	The aquaculture component of this innovation, with the potential to supply 16 metric tons of catfish products and generate $144,000.00 after every 8 months, will enhance project sustainability, and provide interest-free (revolving) loans to empower the 15 cooperatives engage in eco-friendly irrigation swamp-rice farming, reforestation of degraded landscapes and protection of existing forest.

2.	Provision of a 40-foot solar-powered containerized cold storage to preserve perishable fruits, vegetables and catfish products. This will attract concious consumers from their traditional over-exploitation of wildlife products to voluntarily transition to affordable, fresh and safe food products, relevant to motivate farmers increase production and marketers increase their operating hours and sales to improve their income stability.
