Project Summary / Description:
Initiative Description: CH4Guard & Dose Confidence Index (DCI) CH4Guard is a precision water-based dosing and monitoring platform that enables accurate delivery of methane inhibitors to grazing livestock. It solves the core barrier to methane reduction at pasture: consistent, verifiable product administration. Methane inhibitors only achieve their stated reduction (20–60%) when animals receive the correct dose, at the correct time, under variable real-world farm conditions. At pasture, intake varies due to weather, animal behavior, and water consumption patterns. Without controlled dosing and verification, methane reduction claims lack integrity. CH4Guard integrates: Precision liquid dosing via drinking water Continuous telemetry monitoring Real-time system diagnostics Tamper-evident data logging At the center of the system is the Dose Confidence Index (DCI). What the DCI Does The Dose Confidence Index is a composite, telemetry-based integrity score calculated hourly and daily. It evaluates: Pump performance Water flow consistency Product presence and batch tracking System health and connectivity Configuration and firmware changes Tamper and location verification Herd exposure validation The DCI does not claim to prove methane reduction directly. Instead, it provides measurable confidence that livestock were exposed to the correct product at the correct dose and time. Low-confidence periods are flagged, discounted, or excluded from reporting. Why This Matters Methane reduction at pasture is currently limited by: Lack of reliable delivery mechanisms Poor verification and monitoring Weak data integrity for carbon markets Limited auditability CH4Guard addresses these constraints by combining dosing hardware with cryptographically secured data integrity and audit-ready reporting. Initiative Objective To make methane reduction at pasture: Practical (self-install hardware) Scalable (partner-distributed globally) Auditable (cryptographically secured telemetry) Carbon-market ready (integrity-governed eligibility) In short: CH4Guard makes methane reduction at pasture practical and provable.
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
CH4Guard empowers climate-vulnerable and often underrepresented agricultural communities by making methane mitigation accessible to pasture-based livestock systems, including small and medium-scale farmers who are frequently excluded from feed-based or capital-intensive solutions. Because the system is self-installable and does not require new infrastructure, it lowers barriers to participation in climate action and carbon frameworks. The technology is particularly relevant in regions where grazing dominates and farmers operate on tight margins. By enabling verified methane reduction tied to recurring revenue opportunities (e.g., supply-chain incentives or carbon mechanisms), the project supports income resilience while advancing climate goals. Within our organisation, leadership includes both male and female executives, and we prioritise practical, field-driven innovation shaped directly by farmer input. Our deployment model works through local partners and processors, creating opportunities for regional service providers and distributors rather than centralised control. As we scale internationally, particularly into climate-vulnerable grazing regions, we aim to collaborate with local agricultural networks to ensure inclusive access, training, and participation in verified methane mitigation programs.
