Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Let’s Go Compost operates primarily in public schools, with the majority partner sites classified as Title I or low income. These schools serve communities that are often excluded from climate infrastructure investment despite being disproportionately affected by environmental burdens. Embedding composting within existing public institutions removes financial and access barriers that often limit climate participation. Implementation is integrated into standard school operations and supported through centralized training, infrastructure, and technical assistance. Youth are central to implementation. Students lead waste audits, manage diversion systems, track data, and present findings to administrators and district leaders. This shifts them from passive recipients of climate messaging to active operators of institutional systems. Early exposure builds technical literacy in waste systems, soil science, and circular economy principles. The organization is women led and maintains partnerships with educators, food service workers, and custodial teams whose roles are often overlooked in climate planning despite being essential to implementation. Our model intentionally elevates these operational stakeholders, ensuring that frontline institutional workers have decision making voice in how diversion systems are designed and sustained. Locating climate infrastructure within publicly funded schools strategically lowers participation barriers and normalizes climate action as part of everyday civic life.

Mission Statement:
Let’s Go Compost makes composting affordable and accessible nationwide by embedding organics diversion systems within public schools, one of the largest sources of food waste in the country. We secure institutional buy-in, reduce landfill disposal, and build demand for composting services, enabling financially viable, long-term methane reduction across surrounding communities.
