Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The Indonesia Domestic Biogas Program (IDBP) primarily serves rural smallholder farmers communities that are often underrepresented in the global climate movement yet highly vulnerable to energy insecurity, rising fuel costs, and climate-related agricultural risks. By converting livestock waste into biogas and organic fertilizer, the project directly reduces household expenses, strengthens farm productivity, and improves resilience to drought and input price volatility. Women are among the main beneficiaries. Biogas reduces time spent collecting firewood and lowers indoor air pollution, decreasing health risks and domestic workload. The time saved enables women to engage in income-generating, social, and community activities. Women also play a central role in managing household savings from reduced fuel and fertilizer expenses. In many locations, women participate in user training sessions and are actively involved in bioslurry utilization and cooperative activities. Within our organization, we promote inclusive participation across technical, administrative, and leadership roles. Women are represented in engineering, data management, and operational functions, contributing to project implementation and monitoring. By centering rural farmers and women in both program design and delivery, IDBP ensures that climate action is community-driven, locally owned, and socially inclusive.
