Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Wastexus is designed to address methane emissions in decentralized waste systems that disproportionately impact climate-vulnerable and underserved communities, particularly across Africa and other low-infrastructure regions. By converting unmanaged waste into safe water and valuable fertilizer, the system directly improves environmental health, agricultural productivity, and economic resilience for communities often excluded from climate innovation benefits. Our deployment model prioritizes local engagement and accessibility, enabling smallholder farmers, rural operators, and community-scale enterprises to adopt low-cost, off-grid solutions. This creates pathways for inclusive participation in climate mitigation, where beneficiaries are not just end-users but active participants in resource recovery and sustainable practices. Keloks itself reflects this commitment. The organization is youth-led, with leadership rooted in regions most affected by waste and climate challenges, and includes female co-foundership and leadership representation. Our multidisciplinary team spans engineering, AI, environmental science, and public health, bringing diverse perspectives to both technology design and implementation. As we scale, we aim to further embed inclusion through local partnerships, workforce development, and equitable access to technology, ensuring that methane mitigation efforts are both globally impactful and locally empowering.
