Project Summary / Description:

Collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) for the creation and implementation of methane emission mitigation strategies and an MRV (measurement/monitoring, reporting, and verification) process for the livestock sector, focusing on practices such as livestock intensification, recovery of degraded areas, pasture improvement, and integrated systems. Training of approximately 3,000 farmers in Mato Grosso, disseminating and improving good practices already used in the field and introducing new solutions to increase productivity efficiently and sustainably. Among the main techniques worked on are pasture recovery, use of feed additives, animal welfare, genetic selection, and crop-livestock-forestry integration. In addition to increasing productivity and income for producers, these practices contribute directly to reducing the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions, making livestock farming an ally in the fight against climate change and in building a more resilient and sustainable sector. The actions with the producers are carried out in partnership with ICV and the companies Campo Soluções Agropecuárias and Trust Consultoria.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

Gender is being considered from the beginning of the project development. A work plan will be developed to ensure the meeting and involvement of different groups throughout the project period, mobilizing experts from Imaflora, Instituto Centro de Vida and other specialists. One of the main activities along this project is based in the development of a Gender work plan with the strategy to ensure the collection and involvement of different groups during the project period and a brief analysis document compiling the contributions from gender groups collected and engaged with throughout the project during the activities that happens in the farms in the 3,000 farmers in Mato Grosso state directly impacted by the project, with participation of Instituto Centro de Vida on the field. All this is going to used in the report on recommendations collected during the consultation process about the main elements to be addressed in designing the best strategy to reduce methane emissions in an efficient and scalable way, bringing together the developed gender work plan for the project activities.
